My classes are geared towards self defense. I teach a lot of stand up arts: Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, Kali, Dirty Boxing and Silat. There is much more to having a good stand-up game than just throwing punches and kicks. We spend quite a lot of time "denying going to the the ground".
I will break down material I teach in class. Note that I use JKD concepts while teaching each range. Distance, timing, closer weapon nearest target, simplicity ...etc

Using Sport Based Training Methods, We train against a resisting opponent while keeping a self defense mindset. We train hard but all the while keeping our partners safe.
I love BJJ, I love CSW, I love Japanese Jujitsu. I enjoy the grappling arts but I also know its not a good idea to wrestle on concrete against an opponent who might out weigh me by 100 pounds. Therefore, I spend most of my time trying to do all I can NOT TO GO TO THE GROUND.
We use the training methods of BJJ, wrestling and CSW which allow us to go 100% in the clinch range because of the TAP. For pure striking... so we ease off to keep our partner safe, we wear helmets for extra protection, shin guards , groin cup and a mouth piece but for the clinch game and hand fighting we get intense and we TAP to stop/restart.
A good stand-up game is complex and intense. Understanding striking, kicking, hand fighting, clinch game, counters to shoot ins and counters to take downs. Moving in and out of range will go a long way to keeping you on your feet and striking your way out of trouble so you can run away and live to see another day.
